Prevention Education Program

This Prevention Education Program is a training certification process that is designed to improve the ability of staff in a variety of health care settings to assist their clients in reducing the risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV.

This is the characteristics of this program:

  • New Certification trainings for prevention counselors
  • Expand the information provided to prevention counselors
  • Adaptation of CDC training curricula for certification of prevention counselors

The target for this project is to educate prevention counselors, supervisors and clinicians in suburban counties. The types of training included are culture and diversity, language interpretation, STI's HIV testing and Women, and strength based trainings. Our ultimate goal is to support clients in making decisions about testing and to prepare them for test results, by equipping them emotionally, behaviorally, and socially.

TPAC spearheaded and certified 14 sites to provide prevention counseling and rapid testing programs using new technologies like OraQuick Advance.
