May 2006 May 24: Thursday Stress Management: This workshop is specifically geared towards meeting the needs of case managers and caregivers. This will address the high stress factor associated in working with HIV infected and affected individuals. We will also address no cost methods, such as deep breathing, meditation, and exercise to reduce and possibly alleviate stress. The facilitators, from Keystone Hospice, will speak to the issue of when professional therapy or counseling is needed. (1 to 4 p.m.) May 31 Grants
Writing, Part 2: This is a
continuation of the Grant Writing Basics, (April 5, 2007 training). Only
participants who took the first class can enroll for this class since there
was a homework assignment that will be reviewed in this Part 2 class. (9:30
a.m. to noon) June 2006 June 7 Medical Update: Mental Health: Discussion will focus on HIV and various mental health issues, such as depression, dementia, anxiety/panic disorders, delirium, mania, psychosis, substance abuse, and episodes associated with these issues. We will discuss the stigma associated with both HIV and mental health, and learn how to distinguish between HIV and mental health symptoms. (1 to 4 p.m.)
June 21 - Fundraising Basics:
This training session will explore the
options for programmatic financing including not only grants, but other
alternative funding sources including service revenues. The training will
explore both funding options and steps organizations should take before
considering the use of each funding source. (9:30 a.m. to noon) July 2006 July 12 HIV 101: This is specifically for new ASO/CBO case managers and personnel doing prevention work. This training is a pre-requisite for future Prevention Counselors (see July 23-27 training). This is a non-medical workshop focusing on prevention, transmission, testing modalities, and Universal Precautions. (9 a.m. to noon) July 23-27 Prevention Counseling Training: This weeklong training prepares individuals on testing modalities, gauging client readiness to get test results, and testing procedures. After successful completion of oral and written exams, counselors will get a PA certification number. (This workshop is limited to July 12 participants.) (9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily)
August 9 Boundaries and Ethics: This workshop will address the boundaries and ethics associated in providing services to persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, and cover the instructions regarding ethical standards for social work and other HIV/AIDS related service delivery. The group will also focus on boundary setting with clients, how to ensure professional competence, as well as how to protect client confidentiality. This workshop is 51/2 hours long; it is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. August 13 OraQuick Advance Training for Prevention Counselors: Come and learn about this new HIV testing methodology. Find out what the OraQuick ADVANCE Rapid HIV-1/2 Antibody Test is, how it works, and how it is done. Learn the differences in preliminary, confirmatory, positive, and negative results. What can cause an invalid result? How accurate is this test? Come and have all your questions answered by a representative of the OraSure Technologies, Inc. (9:30 a.m. to noon)
August 16 - Medical Updates:
HIV and Reproductive Health for Men and
Women. This is for case managers or clinic personnel working with HIV+
clients. This program was very well attended last year, and we encourage
participants to register early. (1 to 4 p.m.) These training opportunities are free of charge. Individual flyers will be distributed 2 weeks prior to training, except for Prevention Counselor Training (July 23-27, 2007).
